wOrD of ThE dAY: "OK"
OK1 or o·kay Informal n. pl. OK's or o·kaysWord History: OK is a quintessentially American term that has spread from English to many other languages. Its origin was the subject of scholarly debate for many years until Allen Walker Read showed that OK is based on a joke of sorts. OK is first recorded in 1839 but was probably in circulation before that date. During the 1830s there was a humoristic fashion in Boston newspapers to reduce a phrase to initials and supply an explanation in parentheses. Sometimes the abbreviations were misspelled to add to the humor. OK was used in March 1839 as an abbreviation for all correct, the joke being that neither the O nor the K was correct. Originally spelled with periods, this term outlived most similar abbreviations owing to its use in President Martin Van Buren's 1840 campaign for reelection. Because he was born in Kinderhook, New York, Van Buren was nicknamed Old Kinderhook, and the abbreviation proved eminently suitable for political slogans. That same year, an editorial referring to the receipt of a pin with the slogan O.K. had this comment: “frightful letters... significant of the birth-place of Martin Van Buren, old Kinderhook, as also the rallying word of the Democracy of the late election, ‘all correct’.... Those who wear them should bear in mind that it will require their most strenuous exertions... to make all things O.K.”
Sylvia's Examples of what's OK: giving sylvia money, giving sylvia presents, RED BULL! and coffee, going to M'sia, eating Nestle crunch, Ghim Moh breakfasts, Desperate Housewives at night, American Idol, Tim Tams, student's lounge, Seth Cohen (Very OK), Keanu Reeves, Jude Law, criminal law, tort law, non-liberal feminism, downloading 9GB worth of music
What's not OK: taking money from sylvia, calling sylvia fat, calling sylvia a bitch (sylvia is the only one allowed to acknowledge tt), liberalism, Colin Firth's hairy shapeless chest, bouncing boobies on guys, contract law, McKendrick, Phang and Trietel, crashing Toshibas (poor BoonLerk), losing 9GB worth of music
Vic's THEORY OF OK
Isn't it amazing how we sometimes overlook the simplest things in life? The word OK for example entails such a rich history behind it, as you have seen SUPRA. So i say, the next time you say OK, think of what the poor American folks had to go through to bring that word into existence.
There are many ways to say OK:
1) Out of concern: Are you OK?
2) Out of contempt: Are you OK?????? (in responding to someone's crazy antics)
3) Out of respect: Is it OK if i.....
4) Out of fear: Is IT ok? (i.e. is it safe to copulate at this time?)
5) Out of consolation: It'll be OK i promise
6) Out of frustration & envy: OK la! You good la! Your neh damn tua la!
7) Out of words: OK.....
As you can see, the word OK is very very versatile. It is not only the english language which uses such a term, and other languages or dilects also have their version:
Hokkien: Ho Seh Boh!
French: D'accord
Malay: Oh Ke
Indian: Or Khey
MGS speak: Okiez!

love actually, KL
hello baey..sorry i am a bit of a movie skeptic. lemme explain, if you can be so touched and moved by a good plot, why wouldn you be equally touched by a movie with an equally good plot, good actors and actresses which actually portray love in this world as fallen and dejected. i think we all know that the truth is that in the world today, love has fallen. humans are selfish....so i dont understand when people are so touched by a movie. cos it is just a plot. i also happen to hate hugh grant. haha.i think there is only one way to find true love and acceptance, and baey, i think you know what i mean. the hope that you may so seek for is all there. and along with that, i am sure you will find your man one day. you have 70 (average la) years of life man. whats the hurry in getting atttached. this message goes out to me too. just enjoy every season of your life man. you never know, anyway i think getting attached with a wrong person, is more torturous than being single. enjoy your freedom while you have it man. there is a season for everything in life. hope you enjoy or try to enjoy everything that you have now. ya....erm... i love contract. i love life. thanks for being there for me when i was down, guys. i think i will be on permanent high for the next few months. or hopefully, my whole life.
as for KL. i think that sounds great. ok log, can, was thinking if going to penang for the beach and the food, but i am flexible. malacca genting and KL sounds good too. victor's point about driving up was fantastic. since we are taking bus, might as well just go kl rather than up a plane to penang. vic you are terribly intelligent. and your essay was bloody good. you make a good writer. when i look at my blog, i am in shame. i write like shit. but anyway, thaat is my style la. hahahhaa. ok great. the world is beautiful, people are beautiful, and life is so worth living. though i am terribly fat.
see ya tomoro, we are all going ghim moh for the meeting right? shiok.

5D4N KL plus Genting?
GREAT IDEA TRANNY (btw yur blog bu shi short de man) its a lot lot lot lot lot lot easier lah5D4N KL anybody? we can go GENTING! hurhur and spend a day at the theme park :)
getting to genting from KL is easy we take a bus and then can we please take a cable car? click here for more details! damn convenient lahh!! and its only about 16RM for
KL busstation -(bus)-> cable car station -(cable car)-> genting highlands
which saves us the treacherous bus ride. okay this is really weird but i feel more comfortable taking a cable car rather than a bus hahahahaha how?? :)
and you see if we do 4N in KL we just bus there bus back DAMN SIMPLE lah!
and if we DO do 4N in KL and stay in a deluxe quad (with 1 King bed 1 queen bed) then it'll be like 240*4/7= 137RM / S$60! bu shi shiok de man.
then bus ride to KL will be like 27 there, 27 back, then to and fro genting is 10 max and the genting theme park tickets are 42RM for all day ticks to the normal attractions (some must pay)
meaning that we'll all pay 140 per person for lodging and transport and genting!! wooohooo!!

Thoughts....Never Liked Making Them
Thoughts.....how WONDERFUL they are...that is if you like to THINK. I hate to think, which makes my presence in law somewhat consternating, perhaps even a little disconcerting to a few. But for those who treasure thoughts (not dirty ones: that i don't mind), this is dedicated to you.The first part of my essay deals with boku wa (japanese for my) "WTF" moment of the day (a few days ago). Some like to call it "What The F_[<", some call it "What The NehNehPok" (Yeshye did i get that right?), I choose to call it "SMLJ" (wHATEVER it means i leave it up to you). I will then illustrate some inherent defects in our legal/govt system (including the people in it), followed by a systematic attack on the computer guy at the CO-OP. Lastly, I will attempt to address our primary concern, that pertaining to our trip to Malaysia.
Tuesday 12.4.05 - Legal Theory Day 1
You've all heard it before, the ubiquitous phrase: "If in doubt, ask a lawyer. He'll know everything".
Police arrests suspect: "I want to call my lawyer"
In the boardroom, a very angry business rival goes: "You'll be hearing from my attorney very soon"
Yes, lawyers know it all. They know what to do in every situation. Which is why tuesday's happenings were all the more shocking.
If you ask me: "How do lawyers know everything?", i'd only have one thing to add.
"They read more than they do everything else combined (sleep included)", and thus this leads me to my real story.
10pm - 12am tuesday: I'm doing question 2. It's getting late, I should probably be finished with my legal theory readings. I'll give myself another hour. Shumin and Evelyn are in the student lounge reading away as well. As for me, i'm seated outside, butt stuck on the cold metal surface of what we have reified as being a chair. Someone else is seated beside me (identity withheld)*Yawn*
1am: Finally done with my readings. It's time to start on the essay proper. Sitting on the "chair" is really uncomfortable. It's time to go in. To that someone else i say: "Would you like to go inside?" We both get up and go in. Shumin and Evelyn are getting bored by this time. We whip out some snacks, "Arnotts pizza biscuits" and 2 packets of "Pocky Strawberry". Things start to get better, but we are still in dire need of a good laff. God Answers Prayers.
Discussion goes on between the 2 who are doing question 1, shumin and that "someone else". Some cursory discussion about the topic, "what are you gonna write about blah blah blah..." Finally, the moment i was waiting for....
Shumin: So are you gonna include Moore (sounds like *mooooo*) in your essay?
Someone Else [SE]: Huh what moooo? (Surprised looks all round)
- After a while -
SE, having gone through the whole legal theory course: oooohhhh!!!! Is it the mooooo that you see behind the taxis and buses? the one with the tail?
(Laffs all round. I stare at that someone else in disbelief.....)
Law students, Lawyers know EVERYTHING.
You know why?? Because THEY ACTUALLY READ
Let's start READING today. NOW!! nOW!!! now!!!!!
(To that special someone else) No offence, I still luv u, I still think you're a brilliant guy/gal.
15. 4 . 2005 - Losing faith in the system, including my computer system.
It's getting late, the library is closing. A fren calls and i answer. Friendship beckons. I crumble. Clarke Quay Indochine here i come.
I'm cruising down the ECP on the rightmost lane. Suddenly from behind me, a flickering of blindingly holy lights. I ascertain the speed of the vehicle, and it's gotta be more than 170 km/h, and he's closing down on me fast. I feel like i'm being chased, hunted. Fearing for my safety, i veer left quickly onto the left lane. *Car whooshes past* Gone in 2 seconds.
Friend calls me. Plans have been changed. Indochine converts in an instant to Kallang McDonalds.
Just as i put down the phone, a TP car flies by me, presumably in hot pursuit of the car that sped me. Yes, exciting things happen in singapore; you just have to get your ass off your bed every once in a while.
You all know this, that the police serves to protect its citizens. And here goes this TP car which i swear was not only going faster than its prey, it was only weaving recklessly and dangerously in and out of traffic. It makes you wonder doesn't it? Do such stat authorities deserve immunity all the time? In my opinion, i think it's better to let one reckless driver go rather than risk exposing the motoring public to danger as a result of the chase. No doubt that reckless driver may yet again try to wreak havok playing daytona on the singapore circuit and perhaps in the future cause an accident. But is also equally true that as a result of the chase, the probability of the TP car hitting someone else is much greater. I mean, just copy down the bloody license plate no. and then deal with it later!!
Have you ever wondered who gets to drive these TP cars? My surmise is that they get PRO racers precisely cos they're good at that. For those of you budding racers out there who don't like to race on a normal circuit, do sign on with the TP now. You get immunity for racing recklessly over the highways of Singapore. Not only that, YOU GET PAID. tHE bastards.
The next stat board that gets the stick is the IR@.
I arrived at McDonalds with my best pal Alfred, who is really one of the funniest guys on earth.
He started work last week at Inland Revenue, and was raring to tell me his experiences there, some of which i shall now relate.
His Job Scope: Evaluate factory buildings and tax them accordingly.
Factors to look out for: Location, size of factory area, no. of levels and rooms, accessibility, amenities.
Fun fact: Did you know that at the IR@, they have a tennis court on the 6th floor (which was supposed to be a swimming pool which they couldn't get a permit for?) , a pool room, a full sized gym, a food court, a SQUASH court and i can't remember what else. It's practically a NEW TOWN in there.
If you were wondering where some of that govt money goes to? Well my guess is it goes into all these wonderful facilities which they can't use.
But forgive those people, cos they work hard, at sucking our hard earned money that is. For fear of slander or libel, i shall stop here to conclude that i still believe that there is nothing wrong with taxing the citizens. I have faith in where the govt puts our money, save for the IR@ instance.
But the real point that i wanted to bring up here was this.
Fun fact 2: Did you know that the IR@ taxes itself?????
Yes i couldn't believe it when i first heard it. But yes it's true. And i guess i can figure out why. To show the citizens that they are impartial. hmmmmm.... but STILL!!!!
so they tax people, and then from there tax themselves. Meaning, they give money to themselves. Wow. I wish i could give money to myself too.
And then my friend relates something else to me that really cracks me up. Apparently the people who work there are really not up to scratch too:
Alfred (my fren) and his buddy meets their supervisor on the first day
Supervisor: Hallo, welcome to all of you.
*A nod of approval and a round of firm handshakes*
Supervisor: In order to werk in these line, you haf to haf a velli good command of ENGRRRIIISSHH. Everything that you do must JACK (check) properly.
Supervisor (After everything, turning to alfred): can i have your phone number(s). My poor friend alfred only has one.
Alfred and his buddy proceed to the toilet to have themselves a well deserved laff for sitting through the briefing.
At this point, just a brief note about taxi drivers. They know everything, so they claim....
Alfred gets onto a cab, and the taxi driver immediately launches an attack on the govt, as if my friend is the govt whom he wants to complain to. I dunno why, but taxi drivers hateeee the govt. About 60% of the cabs that i have ever gotten into complain about the govt (in their speak: garment) The most expletive-laden speak was this particular driver by the name of WEE TIONG SHEN, and he somehow managed to combine his vulgarities with insects. Yes...every sentence was a F_[< spider. "Ask the govt go F*&* SPIDER". If only the government had an anatomy. Even then, it wouldn't be so small. What is the problem with these taxi drivers? Has legislature enacted a TAXI DRIVERS ACT which reduces their rights as human beings? Are they treated differently by the govt? If not why are they so angry all the time!!!
Supra, i mentioned something about a mooooo behind taxis and buses and all that. You all know what it is. You've seen the cows all over open fields too. It's a bid to get people to advertise on various forms of media including on taxi's. I suppose taxi drivers can expect spin off benefits from such increased advertising revenue, which suprises me even more about the ignorance of cab drivers.
The same taxi driver: " dunno why all the cows and all these over all the field, very waste money. govt like to waste our money. These cows all got nothing to do with me summore"
Punchline (in chinese): "Eh xiao di, if you have anything that you want to know about singapore, just ask taxi drivers. They know everything."
*Alfred nods in silent but mocked acquiescence*
Lawyers know everything. Taxi Drivers know everything. Throw out the doctors, engineers and what have you. The world just needs lawyers and taxi drivers. Indeed, they know everything.
THE GUY AT THE CO-OP
I experienced some trouble the other day with my laptop. Comp took a friggin long time to start up, and at the prompt, my password couldn't log me onto windows, and so effectively i was stuck with a $2500 laptop with only one function: to make me friggin frustrated. Frustration version 1.0
So i took it to the CO-OP centre at science to get it check out.
Guy told me that my computer had to be reformatted. I told him, ok why not access windows in safe mode first. He said ok, and then forgot about it. After some troubleshooting, he decided: "your comp needs formatting". For the uninitiated, formatting means losing all your info. All those hours waiting for your download to finish gone down the drain. So he referred me to the guy to the other counter to get it formatted.
$15 the guy demanded. I said no way. So he asked me to try it myself. Fine. Gei Gao meh, it's just a friggin reformatting function. I didn't see you charging anyone else for the reformatting or fixing. I think he hates lawyers
And so i went home with a heavy heart. This morning, i went about "fixing" my comp. Looked for the recovery disk and windows disk. Was about to reformat when i tried the exact thing that i suggested to the technician at the com lab. I tried to start it up in safe mode. Alas, it was that simple a solution. I just had to choose the option "last known good setting" and then proceeded to enter windows. It was then and there that i cursed the technician. I could very well have lost everything, including the crim notes that i spent half a day making the other day. Format my ass. Lawyers know everything.
I believe i have cleared my system of any grouses or contempt that i previously harboured. Now on to the final issue:
Trip to Malaysia
I'm getting tired. So this will be short.
I suggest that we abandon Penang in favour for a longer stay at KL. We could instead replace Penang with Genting. The reason why i suggested Penang was because i thought it'd be nice to have a long drive there, like the ones you have in the US. THe scenery along the way up is beautiful, what with all the caves and waterfalls. However, i seriously think flying up there will be a bit mundane, cos the food ain't all that great, trust me. No offence JinHuang, i have high standards and a shallow pocket. Besides, it'd make no sense to fly to Penang which is so close to the Thai border. We might as well go to Bangkok like the Tataps or Borstals. Hence, let's eat ourselves silly in KL maybe explore genting, melaka or jb in a lil more detail. I adjourn here in view of the discussion we're going to have tomorrow.
Good night.

allson hotel has a deluxe suite with a king sized bed (for 4 guys to squeeze on) and a queen sized bed (for us 3 slender girls) and its 240RM per night. we cud stay there instead of federal hotel! :)ho ho ho ho
and shall we split the hotel rooms (if we get 2 normal rooms instead of one big suite) by 7 or shud we split them by like the cost of one room divided by 4 and the cost of one room divided by 3 since the 3 girls are staying in 1 room and 4 (big) boys are squishing in another?

I'm Sorry God
I just committed major sacrilege. I insulted Jesus, yes i did. But i insist that the picture was very very misleading. It showed three men holding each other with a woman standing beside him. Honestly, it was a mistake made in good 'faith'. I'm sorry God, I really am. Don't strike me down with lightning lease. Thank You. Amenvicx at 11:30 AM

msia!
hello y'all!! :) since today's my relax at home day i haf nothing to do i need to ENJOYYY before diet-mugging month of APRIL!! ho ho! i decided to start PLANNING our msia trip so tt we can at least START doing sth! how exciting :)1. date
4 to 8 may, tts wednesday to sunday
2. the plan
how does 2NPenang 2NKL sound to yu guys?
SO IDEALLY we can Singapore -(fly)-> Penang -(train)-> KL -(bus)-> Singapore
i just found out tt the penang-KL train leaves penang 2130 and arives KL at 0635
which really means
4May - go to penang, stay at the beach apartment
5May - check out of apartment, go shopping in the city, eat etc, at 2130 catch a train to KL
6May - reach KL at 0635 HAHA no idea wat we're going to do but anyway shop check into hopefully micasa apartments for a BATH and then shop shop shop shop shop till we drop
8May - leave KL back for Singapore!
3. travel by bus (and air) to penang
my mom says tt konsortium is the cheapest bus service so im surfing around the website.. i really am trying to find a nice bus tt has a nice lounge like the aeroline ones so we can sit around and talk tt wud be quite fun i tink! but then again vic's rite its only a 4h busride so.. well..
click here to see the different kinds of buses going to msia!
ALTERNATIVELY (and this is wat i tink is REALLY cool) we can take Air Asia to penang how super fun we can take 170 to the senai airport and then fly to penang HAHAHAHA its only 40RM for the flight leh! cheaper, and FASTER i tink.. than the bus cause it takes so long to drive up to penang! abt 10 hours i tink. i may die.. haha.. and i tink its quite fun lahh. however, we will need to.
1. take 170 to Larkin bus terminal - $1.60, about an hour
2. take a bust to Senai airport - $2.00, about 45 minutes
3. fly to Penang - 40RM, departing Senai 1045, ariving Penang 11.40
4. staying in penang
i really like the sound of sri sayang service apartments its only 108 RM per nite for a 2 bed room suite! so cool! AND its next to the beach! but no free breakfast haha
for a hotel in the city, hotel grand continental sounds good, 100RM per room per nite!
click here to see all the penang hotels
5. the train from penang to KL
all right we have 4 choices of seats on the train
Economy seats - 17 RM
Superior seats - 30 RM
Economy beds - 43 RM
Superior beds - 85 RM
click here to see the seats.. we're taking Ekspres Langkawi.
since we'll be sleeping and i dont really fancy sleeping on a bed in a train i really tink we shud take the superior seats HO HO quite fun :)
6. staying in KL
i think a really good idea is to stay at federal hotel which is right on the shopping belt. like RIGHT on the shopping belt. like REALLY REALLY RIGHT on the shopping belt like how mandarin hotel is on orchard road. it's the cheapest there too its about 200RM per room per night. alas. but there's no breakfast which i tink really is a good idea because the breakfast there according to my brother is total crap. hurhur. last nite's leftovers..
im still very pleased abt the perfect penang-KL train timing we save one night's hotel rate! ho ho and i've been doing this msia thing THE WHOLE DAY haha so fun
Anyway, click here for a list of the KL hotels
7. the bus from KL to Singapore
i wud like to take aeroline because its a double decker bus for $47 one-way from KL on a plush bus i like it cause they haf a lil lounge downstairs with a sofa and table where we can sit and play cards :) but then again $47 may be a bit steep so there's always the dubious $27 or $35 variations but PLS PLS PLS can we PLS take this $47 i've looked i tink its the best deal for the better versions of buses and i really dont tink $47 is too much anywya it's only like $20 more than the other crummy buses and i LUV the lil lounge pls pls pls pls pls anyway we're a democracy. alas. pls pls pls pls pls pls pls pls??
8. TOTAL COST
Getting to Penang - $30 inclusive of taxis here and there, bus rides, and Air Asia ticket
Staying at Sri Sayang - 108 RM
Train from Penang to KL - 30RM each
Staying 2 nights at Federal hotel - 782RM
Aeroline bus ride back - $47 each
so assuming 5 pple (zw tranny chiu tqiu and i) (jaliy i really hope yu'll be able to come too)
and assuming the exchange rate is 2.3RM to 1 sing,
we each pay for the WHOLE trip $170, travel and accomodation and this is INCLUDING my wonderful Aeroline bus ride back from KL!! wahahahaha!!
so including shopping, food, and taxi here there everywhere, guess we'll spend about $300 each for a 5D4N holiday HOW COOL IS THAT hahahahaha
sounds good yes? :)
please say wat yu tink so that we can make alterations and arrangements ASAP. damn fun!
alas my day of enjoyment is almost over.. see yu guys tmr! im going ot bring TimTam- dangerous liasons.. haha i haf a DELIGHTFUL range of Arnott's now daddy mummy just brought them all back from australia wahahahahahaha!! :)
alas. the diet starts tmr. and so does the mugging. see yu!
